I'm Connie McClaran, The Spiritographer

My work is an expression of the deep connection I feel with the natural world. When I’m on a photographic “walkabout”, I allow the lines of separation to blur and settle into an immersion that becomes the images you’ll see on this website.

Before I even begin to find a photograph, I wait for all of the sensory experiences of the place I’m in to come alive in their interwoven relationships with one another: the bird’s song, the stillness of the lake, the voice of the wind in trees, the rush of the creek, the distant movement in the clouds. When they come together and I feel a part of it, I pick up my camera and get lost in the magic of bringing it into a photograph.

Minor White described this process:

"No matter how slow the film, Spirit always stands still long enough for the photographer it has chosen."

The computer is my darkroom. Whether through abstract line and form, realism, color, infrared or black & white, it is my intention to bring forth my experience of commonality with what I saw. Sometimes there’s quite a bit of work to make that happen. Other times, barely anything at all. This all dances well with my 20 year inquiry into and practice of the timeless philosophy of Yoga, based on the urge to merge with Spirit however it’s felt or defined.

Hence, the avocation The Spiritographer.

BEING OUTSIDE! In the natural world, of course. And finding that spiritual connection we have with all things wild. My Walkabouts are a meditation of sorts. A re-wilding, as I've heard it called.

My career as a registered nurse of 35 years assisting in the births of so many, and as a yoga teacher assisting in the birth (realization) of one's Higher Self in so many, has led me to the desire of bringing to light the Spirit I see of All in these images.
